Hita, where sea and medieval stone meet.

Hita retains its medieval old town which was declared a historic site in 1965. Under Muslim rule a fortress was established on top of the hill. Throughout the thirteenth century an important Jewish quarter was formed. A century later Juan Ruiz, Archpriest of Hita, wrote the Book of Good Love. In the 15th century the town experienced its last period of splendor with the Marquis of Santillana as lord of the town.

Archaeological remains of the old castle of Hita are preserved. Of the wall remains standing half a kilometer and the door of Santa Maria of Gothic style. Under one of its walls is the

Access:
GU-150 / CM-1003, dirt esplanade at the entrance to the village (Palenque area). Usual overnight stay; it is forbidden to drive through the medieval quarter with an AC. Public fountain next to the Palenque (~50 m).
