The Balconies of Madrid, also known as Mirador de Os Torgás or Balcóns dos Mouros, are a series of natural balcony-like viewpoints built on large stone blocks, with wooden railings and low stone walls, located in the municipality of Parada de Sil, in the province of Ourense, Galicia. They are situated at an altitude of approximately 500–600 meters above the Sil River canyon, where the river winds through mountains covered with terraced vineyards, with elevation drops of up to 400 meters down to the canyon floor. From this scenic overlook—the most famous and most-visited in the Ribeira Sacra—visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the meandering Sil River, the steep slopes of the canyon, and, on the bank of the province of Lugo, the Sanctuary of Nosa Señora das Cadeiras and, in the distance, Monforte de Lemos. The viewpoint is spacious, with staircases leading to different levels and benches for resting, and offers a unique experience in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra. The name does not come from the view of Madrid, but rather from a local tradition: it was the place where women and families bid farewell to their husbands and fathers, who emigrated to Madrid and other cities to work as wafer makers at fairs and festivals, traveling down the river, which was then the main route of communication. The viewpoint is part of the Sil Canyons and Santa Cristina Monastery Trail (PR-G 98) and is a key stop on hiking trails and sightseeing routes in the area. Sunset views are especially recommended, as the golden light highlights the colors of the landscape, and on sunny winter days, you can see a blanket of clouds covering the canyon at dawn, creating a magical scene. The viewpoint is open 24 hours a day.
