Our municipality is known for its strong agricultural tradition, focused primarily on wheat cultivation. In the past, every village had a communal oven where all the residents could bring their dough and bake their bread. Today, you can still find some artisanal products at one of the bakeries that sell them.
Types of Bread and Flatbreads
There are several types of bread: village bread, rustic bread, and olive oil bread (known as “bolla” in Alpuente). In addition, other traditional products can be made from the same dough, such as bacon or sardine flatbreads. In this case, the bread dough is rolled out into a flatbread shape and topped with a sardine, some peppers, and panceta.
