Capital of the municipality of the same name, its urban area, declared of national historic-artistic interest in 1978, concentrates a valuable classicist architecture of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the result of the economic boom that the artillery factory brought about in that period in the region. The urban center is located at the foot of two small hills: Marimón and Cotillamón (popularly known as "Las Tetas de Liérganes" due to their anthropomorphic resemblance).
