The Lerma History Interpretation Center is a local museum dedicated to explaining the historical evolution of the ducal town of Lerma, in the province of Burgos and the region of Castile and León. It is located at 6 Audiencia Street, with access through the Tourist Office, right in the heart of the town’s historic district. Its exhibition focuses particularly on the 17th century, a time of great splendor for Lerma under the Duke of Lerma and the court of Philip III. According to official tourist information, the museum presents the town’s history, its monuments, notable figures, traditions, and culture, with special attention to the Baroque festivities organized for the court. The tour is organized around informational panels, scale models, and reproductions of 17th-century costumes, as well as portraits, watercolors, and other elements that help contextualize the religious, military, and everyday life of the period. Scenographic elements such as a well and a wine cellar are also featured, designed to enhance the historical atmosphere. Given its content, the center serves as a complementary heritage interpretation site to the major monuments of Lerma, a historic town closely linked to courtly Baroque and the urban development project spearheaded by the Duke of Lerma.

The Arlanza Valley is a wide river valley carved out by the waters of the Arlanza River, which stretches between the Ribera del Duero region and the city of Burgos, in the province of Castile and León. The river originates in Fuente Sanza, near Quintanar de la Sierra, in pine-forested lands, and flows from east to west, following the slope of the terrain down from heights such as Peñas de Cervera (Mount Valdosa, 1,412 m) and the Las Mamblas mountain range (1,372 m), until it joins the Arlanzón River. The valley is part of the La Yecla and Sabinares del Arlanza Protected Natural Area, one of the largest and best-preserved juniper groves in Europe, featuring trees over 2,000 years old. From the visitor point in Lerma, the river valley can be seen from a hilltop, offering views of the grain-growing moors, the gentle hills, and the tree-lined riverbanks that make up a landscape of great natural beauty and tranquility. The area is notable for its rich history and culture, as it forms part of the Arlanza Triangle—a group of three municipalities (Covarrubias, Lerma, and Santo Domingo de Silos)—which includes monuments such as the Monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza (founded in 912), the Ducal Palace of Lerma, and the Collegiate Church of San Cosme and San Damián in Covarrubias. The valley is featured in reputable travel guides and is a member of the association “Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España” (Spain’s Most Beautiful Villages), and it is recognized for its emerging wine-growing heritage, which complements traditional grain farming and sheep raising. The best time to visit is in spring or fall, when the colors of the landscape are most vivid, or in summer to enjoy the tranquility of the natural surroundings.
