Garganta Verde
PARAJEThe Garganta Verde is a natural site of strong geological character located in the municipality of Grazalema, within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, in the province of Cadiz. It is a deep canyon carved by the Bocaleones stream, with very vertical limestone walls and an encasement that reaches at some points about 400 meters of unevenness. It is part of the typical karst landscape of this mountain range, modeled by the dissolution of the limestone rock and by a very marked fluvial dynamics. The most striking feature of the place is the gorge itself: a narrow corridor, very deep, with slopes covered by vegetation and rocky cliffs that offer a very unique image of the interior of the mountain range. Its interest for the visit resides in the combination of landscape, geology and fauna observation, especially rocky birds, with an outstanding presence of griffon vultures. The Cueva de la Ermita, of karstic origin, is also mentioned as one of the elements of interest along the route. The Garganta Verde is relevant for its integration in a protected natural area and for being one of the best known enclaves in the surroundings of Grazalema. Access to the trail is regulated and requires prior authorization, which reinforces its conservation value and helps preserve a very fragile environment. It is a resource especially appreciated in hiking and nature guides for the intensity of the relief and the presence of fauna associated with the cliffs.

Pinsapar de Grazalema
NATURALThe Pinsapar de Grazalema is a natural forest of Spanish fir, the relict fir of the Mediterranean flora, located in the Sierra de Grazalema, in the municipality of Grazalema (Cadiz), within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and its Biosphere Reserve. In this sector of the park, the main mass exceeds 400 hectares and occupies the Sierra del Pinar, in a very abrupt limestone relief where the Atlantic humidity and the orographic effect favor this unique ecosystem. What makes this resource special is the rarity of the Spanish fir and the mountain landscape that accompanies it: rocky slopes, dense forests, clearings with wide views and a high mountain vegetation unusual in Andalusia. On the Pinsapar route you can also observe birds of prey and the contrast between the cool and humid interior of the forest and the crests and viewpoints of the mountains, a set highly valued by hikers and lovers of botany. Its relevance is remarkable because it is one of the most emblematic enclaves of plant conservation in Spain. The protection of the area was reinforced with the declaration of the natural park and the Biosphere Reserve, precisely because of the uniqueness of this forest and for hosting one of the largest concentrations of Spanish firs in the world in this mountain range. The visit is made by a marked trail linking Grazalema and Benamahoma, with regulated access. It is one of the most recognizable landscapes of the municipality and a common reference in nature guides for the scientific, forest and landscape value of the pinsapar.

NATURALPuerto de las Cumbres is a natural pass and panoramic viewpoint located at an elevation of 1,261 meters in the Sierra de Grazalema, Cádiz, Andalusia. Geographically, it is a ridge connecting the southern and northern slopes of the Sierra del Pinar, offering, from its viewing point, a superb view of the Serranía de Ronda behind the visitor and a vast expanse of the Sierra de Grazalema Biosphere Reserve and Natural Park stretching out ahead. The area is characterized by forests of pinsapo, a unique fir tree endemic to the mountain ranges of Cádiz and Málaga—a species that survived the last ice age, which led to the designation of these mountain ranges as a Biosphere Reserve. From the pass, you can see the pyramidal shape of San Cristóbal Peak (1,556 m) and the ridgeline of the Sierra del Pinar, whose highest point is El Torreón (1,654 m), the highest point in the province of Cádiz. The site’s significance is reflected in its protected status within the Natural Park, its inclusion in reputable hiking guides such as the Pinsapar Trail, and the requirement for prior authorization to access the reserve area, especially between June and October. The best time to visit is in spring or fall, when the vegetation is most active and weather conditions are more stable; it is best to avoid summer due to access restrictions and the intense cold in winter.
