Osma Castle and the medieval bridge

The Wall
The city wall encloses the medieval center of Burgos. It was built by Bishop Montoya in 1458 in response to the situation Castile was facing during the reign of Henry IV, as he did not consider the fortress of Osma to be sufficient defense for the town.

San Agustín Hospital
The building that once housed the Hospital de San Agustín was constructed at the expense of Bishop Sebastián de Arévalo y Torres. Construction began in 1694 and was completed in 1701. In the 15th century, Bishop Montoya had founded a hospital named San Agustín within the city walls.

Former University of Santa Catalina
The former University of Santa Catalina was funded in the mid-16th century by Bishop Álvarez de Acosta (1539–63). It is a square building with sides measuring 53 meters, featuring unmistakable elements of the purist Renaissance style.

Santo Domingo de Guzmán Diocesan Seminary
This building was originally funded by Joaquín Eleta. Construction began in 1785, and it was inaugurated in 1791. Luis Bernasconi was responsible for the design and supervision of the project.

Bishop's Palace
The Oxomense episcopal residence is located on Calle Mayor, near the Cathedral. The most interesting feature is the façade, which dates from the time of Bishop Alonso Enríquez (1506–1523).

San José Royal Hospice or Residence
Construction of the Hospice began in 1785, and by 1790 it was completed but already running out of funds, so in 1793 the residents were moved to Zaragoza, and the building was occupied by the Royal Livestock Breeders’ Company of Soria and Burgos, which built a wool-processing factory—attached to the Hospice—complete with a washhouse, fulling mill, and dyehouse. The Company occupied the building until 1803.

City Hall
Architect Ángel Vicente Ubón designed the project and oversaw the construction in exchange for 38,000 reales. Construction began in 1769 and was completed in February 1771.
