The Natural Pools of La Codosera are a group of three pools carved out and developed along the Gévora River, located on the outskirts of the town of La Codosera, in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. The setting combines flowing water, a rocky riverbed, and a very well-preserved riverbank, with a gallery of alders, poplars, and other shade trees that give the area a cool atmosphere even in the height of summer. From the swimming area, you can see the Gévora Valley itself and a river landscape of ecological interest, with clean water and a gentle current in the channeled section. The complex is designed for recreational use: there are varying depths, ranging from very shallow areas to a deeper pool, making it suitable for both families and swimmers looking to swim a bit further. The facility offers numerous amenities, including restrooms, picnic areas, a playground, fountains, benches, a beach bar, and parking. The pools are shaded by trees, so there’s no need to bring a beach umbrella—the trees provide shelter and a bit of cool relief. The best time to visit is in the summer, when the facility is open for the season and swimming is most enjoyable. During the season (from late June through mid-September), the facility is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and there is an admission fee: adults pay 1.50 euros; children ages 4 to 14 and seniors, 1.00 euro; and there is a 1.50 euro fee to bring a vehicle onto the grounds. During the off-season, access is free, but facilities may not be operational. The Gévora River boasts magnificent environmental richness, making this area one of the best-preserved river ecosystems on the Iberian Peninsula. Amid the stunning beauty of the landscape lie these three natural pools of varying sizes and depths, surrounded by vegetation and fed by the waters of the Gévora River, offering a peaceful and natural setting where you can cool off and unwind.
