Description
The Pinares de Rodeno Protected Landscape is a protected natural area located in Albarracín, within the Sierra de Albarracín, in the province of Teruel. It also covers land in Bezas and Gea de Albarracín, and occupies 6,829.05 hectares; its elevations range from approximately 1,095 to 1,602 meters above sea level. It is a landscape of great geological and geomorphological interest, modeled on sandstones and reddish conglomerates of the Permotrías and Buntsandstein. On this substratum dominates the pine or resin pine, which forms very characteristic wooded extensions and contrasts with the rocky forms, ridges and shelters that give personality to the place. The most striking for the visitor is the combination of red stone, pine forest and capricious relief, with very photogenic rocky areas and trails between large blocks and natural shelters. In addition, the space preserves manifestations of Levantine rock art, integrated in the cultural scope of the Sierra de Albarracín, which adds historical and patrimonial value to the visit. Its relevance derives both from its protection as a natural landscape and from its cultural and educational interest. The Government of Aragon includes it in the Network of Protected Natural Spaces and highlights its landscape, biological and archaeological value; it was also the first protected natural space declared in Teruel, in 1995, and was extended in 2007 to its current extension.
