Description
The Mogrovejo Rural School Museum is an ethnographic and educational museum located in the former school buildings of the village of Mogrovejo, in the municipality of Camaleño, Cantabria, in the Liébana Valley, within the historic setting of the Mogrovejo complex. Its location coincides with the traditional center of the village, at the foot of the Picos de Europa, and is linked to the region’s educational heritage. The exhibition focuses on the rural schools of Liébana, particularly the one-room schools, with the aim of rescuing the school life of previous generations from oblivion. According to the sources consulted, the project was promoted by the Association of Friends of the Liébana Region and is funded by the municipality; it is presented as a space for interpreting rural education, featuring audiovisual materials and a recreation of a traditional classroom. The museum occupies two exhibition spaces: a reception room with audiovisual material and a permanent exhibition featuring wooden desks, a blackboard, maps, and historical school objects. These elements allow for a documented reconstruction of how the region’s schools operated and the role of teachers and students in a context of scarce resources. The sources consulted do not document the museum’s specific construction date, as its heritage value lies in its location within the village’s former schools and in its museum collection. The building is part of the historic landscape of Mogrovejo, a town designated a Historic-Artistic Site, meaning the museum is integrated into a rural heritage setting of great interest.
