Description
The Archaeological Museum of Zuheros is a municipal museum of patrimonial character dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of archaeological materials found in the municipality of Zuheros, in the province of Cordoba, Andalusia. Its location in the historic center of the town, next to the castle, links it directly to the interpretation of the local past and the environment of the Cueva de los Murciélagos. It was inaugurated on August 14, 1992 and gathers a selection of pieces from excavations and findings in the municipality, with a special presence of prehistoric materials. Among the documented collections are tools, bones, vases, bracelets, fragments of vessels and ceramics of chronology ranging from the Middle and Upper Paleolithic to the Neolithic, Copper Age and Bronze Age. The museum has, therefore, an essentially archaeological and didactic function, offering a representative sample of the rich heritage of the site of the Cueva de los Murciélagos and other surrounding contexts. Its exhibition discourse helps to understand the long human occupation of the territory and the importance of Zuheros as a historical enclave in the Subbética region of Córdoba.
