Conjunto Castillo - Iglesia - Museo

The Castle - Church - Museum of Valderrobres is a heritage monument formed by the castle-palace, the church of Santa María la Mayor and the museum space / interpretation center associated with the visit. It is located in Valderrobres, in the region of Matarraña, province of Teruel, dominating the historic center and the access over the river. The castle has its origin in a defensive tower of the late twelfth century and was expanded in the fourteenth century, in a context of constructive impulse linked to the archbishops of Zaragoza. The typology is clearly hybrid, between fortress and palace, with Gothic architecture as the main base; the adjoining church is also Gothic and is one of the monumental references of the complex. The enclave is completed with a visitable museum, conceived as an interpretative support for the tour of the castle and the church. The complex is closely linked to the medieval development of Valderrobres, whose historic urban fabric preserves the defensive and stately character of the town. Among its most outstanding heritage elements are the physical connection between castle and church, the volumetry of the castle-palace and the relevance of Santa María la Mayor as the main Gothic piece of the ensemble. For its historical, architectural and urban value, it is one of the monumental landmarks of Valderrobres.
