Description
The Chorrera de Despeñalagua is a stepped waterfall located in Valverde de los Arroyos, in the province of Guadalajara, within the environment of the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara and at the foot of the Ocejón Peak. The waterfall is formed in the stream of the Chorrera, a tributary of the Sorbe River, and in the sources consulted is described with an approximate total fall of between 80 and 120 meters, depending on the section that is measured. The most characteristic feature of the river is the way the water flows between the rocky slopes, creating a very recognizable natural amphitheater in the landscape of the so-called Pueblos Negros. The visit is interesting both for the visual effect of the successive waterfalls and for the contrast between the riverside vegetation, the dark rock and the mountain environment, especially when the flow is more abundant. The most common access starts from the center of Valverde de los Arroyos itself, along a simple and signposted path that allows you to reach the stream on foot. The route is one of the most popular excursions in the municipality and is associated with local routes and the official tourist offer of Castilla-La Mancha. Its relevance is not only scenic: it is part of one of the most representative natural enclaves of the region and of a municipality closely linked to the traditional mountain architecture. That is why it appears recurrently in guides and tourist resources of the territory, as an essential visit next to the village.
