Description
Cascadas de Tobera is a group of waterfalls of the Molinar river in the town of Tobera, a district of Frías, in the Burgos region of Las Merindades. The place is embedded in a gorge carved into limestone rock, where water has been modeling a small natural corridor closely linked to the town and its traditional architecture. The most visible for the visitor are the successive waterfalls, the narrow passage of the river between rocky walls and riverside vegetation, and the picturesque atmosphere created by the surrounding bridges and paths. The usual route is short and accessible, designed to walk along the riverbed and contemplate different points of view of the waterfalls. Its main interest is scenic and recreational, due to the combination of water, rock and vegetation in a very photogenic space. In addition, it is part of the best known routes of Tobera and of the tourist image of Frías, one of the most visited historical sites in the north of Burgos.
How to get there
By car: from Frías, take the BU-504 towards Briviesca; after about 2 km you will see Tobera and, a little further on, the access to the group of hermitages and the beginning of the walk. Parking: there is a parking area next to the road, in front of the monumental access area. Path: short, circular walk of about 1 km; easy difficulty and about 25-30 min, along the river. Footwear: comfortable shoes with grippy soles, especially if the terrain is wet. Best season: spring and early summer, when there is usually more water. Warnings: on rainy days there may be slippery sections; it is advisable to respect the path and not to leave the conditioned areas.
