The ascent to Pico Ocejón from Valverde is a traditional route and practically a must for any hiker or mountaineer with a little experience.
The first section follows the GR60 trail between Valverde de los Arroyos and Majaelrayo, and then the CM2 (Ocejón via Valverde); both sections are well marked.
The round-trip distance is 12 km and covers an elevation gain of 840 m, taking approximately 5 hours along a well-marked trail until reaching the base of Pico Ocejón, where the ascent becomes a bit more challenging, in sections consisting of steps built in the last century.
One section of the route passes alongside the Chorrera de Despeñalagua, offering a spectacular view of it.
From the summit, you can see a vast expanse of land that includes, to the north, the peaks of the Sierra de Urbión, Moncayo, the Albarracín highlands, the Montes de Toledo, the skyline of Madrid, and the peaks near Peña Centenera and Peñalara.
Although it is not a difficult climb, proper preparation and equipment are essential, and you should take weather conditions into account.
