Hermitage of the Magdalena · Valderrobres

The hermitage of Santa Magdalena, located in the muela of Valderrobres, requires an ascent on foot of about twenty minutes. It is a fortified cave construction of the sixteenth century, rising in a natural cave at the top of the mountain. Although very deteriorated, Templar symbols such as pate crosses can still be seen. It preserves added walls and steps carved in stone. In its interior there are bowls that could have originated in more ancient cults. During the post-war period, it served as a refuge for the Maquis and it is believed that it could also have been used by the Cathars who fled from Languedoc.
