Old prison
OtroThe Old Valderrobres Prison is a civil heritage site located in the historic center of Valderrobres, in the province of Teruel, within the town’s medieval urban complex. It is a historic building associated with the administration of justice and the detention of prisoners, now part of the municipality’s heritage sites open to the public. According to regional tourist information, it was the only district prison in the Matarraña basin during the 19th century, and thus played a significant role in the judicial and penitentiary system of this area of Aragon. Its main significance is historical and ethnographic, rather than monumental, as it preserves the memory of an essential public service in local life. The sources consulted do not provide a specific architectural typology or a precise construction date for the building; therefore, it should be cautiously classified within the realm of traditional civil architecture of the contemporary period, likely associated with 19th-century prison use. Its heritage value lies in its connection to the administrative history of Valderrobres and the Matarraña region. The Old Prison is part of the cultural heritage of Valderrobres’ historic district, a municipality designated as a Historic Site, known for its medieval street layout, the castle-palace, the Church of Santa María la Mayor, and the Renaissance-style town hall.

Camera Obscura
Torre / MurallaThe Valderrobres Camera Obscura is a heritage tourist attraction housed in the Valentinet Tower, an ancient defensive tower integrated into the walls of the historic center of Valderrobres, in the Matarraña region of Teruel. It is, therefore, an interpretive facility open to visitors that is linked to the medieval military architecture of the town. The tower where it is located dates back to the 15th century and was restored while preserving its original elements as much as possible. The camera obscura allows visitors to view the town and its surroundings in real time through an optical system of mirrors and lenses that projects the exterior scene onto an interior surface, offering a panoramic, moving view of the Valderrobres landscape. Its opening made Valderrobres the first town in Aragon to incorporate a camera obscura as a tourist attraction. The attraction is set within a monumental setting of great value, alongside the castle-palace, the Church of Santa María la Mayor, and the town’s medieval historic district, enhancing the appreciation of the town’s heritage and its historic defenses.

Castle-Church-Museum Complex
MonumentoThe Valderrobres Castle-Church-Museum Complex is a heritage site comprising the castle-palace, the Church of Santa María la Mayor, and the museum and interpretation center associated with the tour. It is located in Valderrobres, in the Matarraña region of the province of Teruel, overlooking the historic district and the river crossing. The castle originated as a defensive tower in the late 12th century and was expanded in the 14th century, as part of a construction boom linked to the archbishops of Zaragoza. Its architectural style is clearly hybrid, blending elements of a fortress and a palace, with Gothic architecture as its primary foundation; the adjoining church is also Gothic and stands as one of the complex’s most notable landmarks. The site is complemented by a museum open to the public, designed to provide interpretive context for the tour of the castle and the church. The complex is closely linked to the medieval development of Valderrobres, whose historic urban fabric preserves the town’s characteristic defensive and stately character. Among its most notable heritage features are the physical connection between the castle and the church, the scale of the castle-palace, and the significance of Santa María la Mayor as the complex’s principal Gothic structure. Due to its historical, architectural, and urban value, it stands as one of Valderrobres’s most significant landmarks.

El Salt
CASCADAEl Salt is a waterfall in the surroundings of Valderrobres, in the region of Matarraña, province of Teruel, located on the Tastavins river, a tributary of the Matarraña. Although the toponym is sometimes generically associated with the excursion destination from Valderrobres, the waterfall itself corresponds to the place known as El Salt de La Portellada, about 9 km from the town of Valderrobres. It is a waterfall about 20 meters high, which falls over a natural well and a rock amphitheater shaped by erosion. The set combines limestone wall, riparian vegetation and a very open river landscape, with easy access trails from the marked trail. In the rainy season the flow becomes more attractive; in drought it can be greatly reduced or even disappear. What most interests the visitor is the contrast between the vertical drop, the sound of the water and the geological forms carved into the rock, in addition to the scenic value of the environment of the Tastavins. It is one of the best known points of nature tourism in the area and appears regularly in guides and local routes of Matarraña. Its relevance is mainly scenic and recreational, within a territory highly valued for its natural and rural heritage. The visit fits well with other nearby resources of Valderrobres and the Matarraña valley, so it is usually part of regional itineraries of hiking and inland tourism.

Pantano de Pena
OtroThe Pena Reservoir is a reservoir on the Pena River located in the municipality of Valderrobres, in the Matarraña region, at the foot of the Puertos de Beceite. It is a hydraulic infrastructure integrated in a landscape of mountain ranges, ravines, masses of pine forest and dry crops, with a sheet of water that reaches 120-129 hectares and a capacity of 18.5 million cubic meters. Its curved dam is 41 meters high and 119 meters long at the crest. Its construction began in 1909 and was completed in 1930, with the flooding of several farmhouses in the surrounding area. The reservoir had an eminently agricultural use and is one of the most unique hydraulic works in the area, both for its size and its role in the transformation of the Pena valley. Also mentioned is its peculiar system of floodgates and its survival of an attempt to blow it up during the Civil War. The visitor is interested in the combination of water and mountain scenery, the presence of viewpoints and access by track from Valderrobres and Beceite, and for being a starting point for walks and simple routes around the dam and the tail of the reservoir. It is part of the natural attraction of the Matarraña and is highlighted in the regional tourist offer for its scenic and recreational value.
