Built over a former Muslim mosque, the church of Santa María la Mayor combines Gothic and Romanesque elements. Its bell tower is unique in Extremadura. The temple has three naves covered with ribbed vaults with terceletes and stands out for its impressive altarpiece of the fifteenth century, depicting scenes of the Passion. Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, it is the most emblematic building in Trujillo, witness to centuries of history and faith in the heart of the old town.
