Llames waterfall

CASCADA

The Llames Waterfall is a small waterfall of the Llames stream, in the rural environment of San Martín/Samartín, very close to Tazones and the Villaviciosa estuary, in the council of Villaviciosa (Asturias). The sources consulted describe it as a waterfall about 5 meters high, formed shortly before the mouth of the stream into the estuary, after a stretch of riparian forest. What makes it interesting is not only the fall itself, but the wet landscape that accompanies it: riparian vegetation, small pools and a simple rural road environment, linked to the path between Tazones and Villaviciosa. It is a short and very accessible visit for those looking for a natural corner near the Asturian coast, with the added value of combining water, forest and village atmosphere. Its scenic relevance is related to its location in the basin of the Villaviciosa estuary, an area of high environmental interest. The waterfall is also close to the Ría de Villaviciosa Partial Nature Reserve, a wetland of international importance, cited for its ornithological value and the quality of its coastal ecosystems. For the visitor, it is of interest above all for being an example of a minor natural resource but very photogenic and representative of the Asturian rural landscape: a modest waterfall, embedded in a green environment, close to a well-known route between Tazones and Villaviciosa. In the sources consulted there is no specific figure of protection for the waterfall itself, but for the natural environment of the estuary.
