Castillo de Roita
PARAJERoita Castle is a historic mountain site located in the municipality of Sos del Rey Católico, in the region of Cinco Villas, province of Zaragoza. It stands a few kilometers from the town center, with access by forest track from the road between Sos and Uncastillo, and dominates a border territory with Navarra. The enclave preserves the ruins of a medieval fortress perched on the mountain range, in a strategic position of surveillance of the environment. The visible structure has a trapezoidal plan, with a larger side of about 25 meters, two towers on opposite corners and the remains of a small parade ground. The eastern tower, square in plan and about 6 meters on each side, is the best preserved; arrow slits, a rectangular window and part of its interior distribution on several floors can still be seen. Elongated outbuildings with pointed arch access and masonry and ashlar construction elements are also preserved. The complex is of interest for its archaeological and landscape value, as it allows us to read the defensive architecture of the frontier in the Middle Ages and to understand the role of territorial control between Aragon and Navarra. SIPCA lists it as an Asset of Cultural Interest, Monument, and places its construction in medieval times, with references to a previous Muslim fortress and later reconstructions.

Iglesia de San Esteban
Iglesia / ErmitaThe Church of San Esteban de Sos del Rey Católico is a parish church located in the historic center of Sos del Rey Católico, in the province of Zaragoza, Aragón, within a medieval urban complex protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest. The building is associated with the Romanesque tradition of the Cinco Villas, although it also presents later reforms and additions that enrich its historical reading. Due to its construction characteristics, the church is generally dated to the Middle Ages, with a Romanesque main structure and later elements from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Among the documented features are its interior Romanesque structure, the Baroque altarpieces and the organ, as well as the north door and the atrium, recently restored. Its crypt stands out for its marvelous Gothic mural paintings from the 14th century and two magnificent capitals attributed to Master Esteban. Its heritage value lies both in its architecture and in the role it plays within the monumental ensemble of Sos del Rey Católico, a historic town closely linked to the kingdom of Aragon and the preservation of its medieval fabric. The church is part of the monumental tour of the town and is one of its most representative religious buildings.

Palacio de Sada y Centro de interpretación de Fernando II de Aragón
Palacio / Casa señorialThe Palacio de Sada is a palace or manor house located in Sos del Rey Católico, Zaragoza, on the highest promontory of the town, in front of the parish church of San Esteban and next to the old castrum. It is also identified with the birthplace of Ferdinand II of Aragon, known as Ferdinand the Catholic, born here in 1452. Its origin dates back to the first rooms of the thirteenth century, although the building grew by successive additions to configure its complete plant in the late sixteenth century. It was also renovated in the 16th and 17th centuries, on the basis of the ruins of the old castle, which explains its hybrid character between noble residence and architecture with a defensive air. From the architectural point of view, it presents a sober and rectangular facade, with a predominance of horizontal lines and small vertical projections at the ends as turrets. The presence of battlements and the location on the rock reinforce its image as a fortress, and the Sada family coat of arms appears on the façade. It currently houses the Fernando el Católico Interpretation Center and the Sos del Rey Católico Tourist Office. The building is catalogued as an Asset of Cultural Interest, Monument, which underlines its historical and patrimonial relevance within the monumental ensemble of the town.

PARAJEThe Añués Tower is a historical-rural site located in the municipality of Sos del Rey Católico, in the Cinco Villas region (Zaragoza), next to the old uninhabited village of Añués and in the vicinity of the Bardenas canal. In the sources consulted it is described as a small medieval fortified enclave, settled on a slight rise in the terrain and linked to a settlement that is now abandoned. The most visible part is the defensive tower, with a square floor plan and ashlar masonry construction, with arrow slits and the remains of the crenellated top. Next to it are the ruins of a Romanesque church with a rectangular nave and semicircular apse, today without a roof but still legible in its layout. The ensemble allows us to understand how these border towns between Aragon and Navarre functioned, with functions of surveillance and territorial control. Its scenic interest lies not only in the ruins, but also in the open environment of gentle hills and dry farming that surrounds the depopulated area, with views of the Valdonsella and the Sos corridor. It is an attractive place for those looking for heritage in a rural landscape, with a clear reading of the medieval settlement and its subsequent abandonment. The relevance of the enclave is mainly patrimonial and historical: it is listed in specialized inventories and is associated with the medieval history of Sos del Rey Católico. The sources place its first news in the ninth century and its defensive consolidation in medieval times, although at present the complex is in ruins.
