Once an area dotted with lagoons, as the place names suggest, one of them has now been restored near the town. Located on the outskirts of town, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. There is a trail that circles it, offering hikers an incredible view of Sajazarra. This lagoon was created to provide a refuge for local wildlife, fostering an ecosystem that will attract more species. Next to the trail and overlooking the lagoon is a lookout point where you can enjoy the scenery, the wildlife, and the town’s skyline.

The Obarenes Mountains form a continuous barrier that marks the border in the northwest corner of La Rioja; two crags jut out from their southern face, with a cliff face between them. These crags are a spectacular sight both when viewed from below and when looking out from the lookout point at their summit. Access to the western rock is easy, requiring no climbing, and at its summit there is a mailbox and a hollow carved into the rock, locally known as the “Pozo de la Campana,” which was part of a watchtower.

In the natural environment of Sajazarra, one of the most beautiful villages of La Rioja, the Peñas de Gembres rise like two imposing rocky escarpments on the southern slopes of the Obarenes Mountains. To reach the base, you can follow the Sajazarra-Espacio Natural Protegido cycling path, a pleasant route that allows you to enjoy the scenery. The ascent to its summits, especially accessible from the western slope, offers a spectacular natural viewpoint over the valley of the Oja-Tirón river, with views that extend to the San Lorenzo peak. An ideal place to contemplate the essence of the Riojan landscape.
