Las Tosquillas reservoir

PARAJE

The Tosquillas reservoir is a small mountain reservoir with a recreational area, located in the municipality of Rubielos de Mora, near the border with Mora de Rubielos, in the region of Gúdar-Javalambre, Teruel. The route and the local tourist information sheet present it as a resource for landscaping and walking, with a short circular path around the reservoir and an environment of Mediterranean pine forest with holm oaks and junipers. The dam is also listed as a hydraulic work completed years ago and with a capacity quoted in the press of about one cubic hectometer. The most interesting part of the visit is the walk along the water, the viewpoints and the forest environment that surrounds the shore. Several descriptions coincide in that from the recreational area there is a river path that borders the reservoir, with small bridges and points of observation of the landscape, making it a very accessible walk with little slope. In the same environment there are also remains of trenches from the Civil War, which adds historical value to the itinerary. Its current relevance is mainly recreational and scenic: it functions as a place for walking, resting and observing the environment, rather than as an infrastructure with consolidated hydraulic use. The provincial press has pointed out that the dam remained unused for years, while the hiking and tourist websites have included it in local routes and proposals for visits in the surroundings of Rubielos de Mora and Mora de Rubielos.

Hermitage of Santa Barbara

Hermitage of Santa Barbara

ERMITA

The Ermita de Santa Bárbara is a small 15th century Gothic hermitage located on a hill overlooking Rubielos de Mora, in the province of Teruel. It is accessed by a path and its location makes it a natural viewpoint over the historic center and the landscape of the region of Gúdar-Javalambre. The consulted card places it in the term of Rubielos de Mora and describes it as a building of masonry and stonework, of unique ship to two waters. The most striking thing about the place is its elevated position and the relationship between architecture and landscape: from the surroundings of the hermitage there is a wide view over the mountains of Teruel, which explains its interest as a short excursion point and as a landmark visible from the village. The access on foot and the character of ruin reinforce its value as a historical vestige inserted in a very marked natural and rural environment. It is currently in ruins, so the main interest is landscape, heritage and hiking, rather than cultural. Its presence in inventories and lists of monuments of Rubielos de Mora links it to the traditional religious heritage of the municipality and to the historical image of the "Portico de Aragón".

The location provided, 40.23036, -0.71254, coincides with this environment near the municipality. The place is of interest above all for its function as a picnic area and a place to stay outdoors, suitable for a short visit, a family meal or a stop along a route through the Gúdar-Javalambre region. The local tourist information itself presents it as a fresh and pleasant place, designed to enjoy nature in a simple way, without great physical demands. Its main value is landscape and social use: it offers shade, rest and direct contact with the rural environment of Rubielos de Mora, a small municipality in the mountains of Teruel with a strong historical and patrimonial personality. The sources consulted do not show dimensions, a specific environmental figure or unique geological features of the site, so it should be described as a recreational enclave linked to water and the transitional landscape between mountain and village.

TOURIST OFFICE - GUIDED TOURS

TOURIST OFFICE - GUIDED TOURS

Oficina de turismo

The Rubielos de Mora Tourist Office-Guided Visits is a municipal tourist information and assistance resource, dedicated to orienting the visitor about the town and its surroundings, as well as organizing guided tours through the historic center. According to the municipal documentation, from here depart the visits that interpret the local history through the traditional urban layout and its main heritage landmarks. It is not an autonomous historical monument, but a tourist service installed in the urban center of Rubielos de Mora, in the province of Teruel, Aragon, with coordinates 40.20940, -0.80391. The office channels the visit to a heritage site of high value, in a town declared a Historic Site, where the conservation of the medieval plot, the arcaded streets and the historic accesses stand out. The guided tours offered allow visitors to get to know especially the old collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor and the castle of Fernández de Heredia, two of the great landmarks of the local heritage. Both properties are ascribed to the Aragonese Gothic style and explain the role of Rubielos de Mora as a medieval town of stately and religious relevance in the area. Because of its function, the office acts as a starting point for interpreting the urban and monumental heritage of the municipality, facilitating an orderly and contextualized visit. Its tourist interest lies, therefore, in the cultural mediation service it provides on a well-preserved historical site, rather than in its own documented architectural value as a singular building.
