Julián Gayarre House-Museum
MuseoThe Julián Gayarre House-Museum is a museum dedicated to the memory of the Roncal-born tenor Julián Gayarre, located in the Arana neighborhood of Roncal, Navarre, in the artist’s birthplace. It is a historic home converted into a museum, directly linked to the singer’s life story and the preservation of his personal and documentary heritage. The building was expanded by Gayarre himself in 1879 onto the site of the house where he was born, and was later converted into a museum, which opened in 1990. The site is therefore classified as a birthplace museum or house museum, rather than a monumental building with a defined architectural style; the sources consulted do not specify a particular stylistic approach for the construction. The permanent exhibition is organized across several floors and brings together personal items, photographs, sheet music, awards, costumes, and documentation related to his artistic career. Together, these items offer a chronological journey through the life and career of one of the great tenors of the 19th century, who was closely linked to the cultural identity of Roncal and the Navarrese Pyrenean valley. The center is managed by the Julián Gayarre Foundation, established with the participation of the tenor’s family, the Roncal City Council, and the Government of Navarre, with the aim of preserving and promoting his legacy.

CASCADAThe Belabarze Waterfall is a waterfall approximately 15 meters high, located in the heart of the beech and fir forest of the Roncal Valley, in the Autonomous Community of Navarre. This geological site is formed by the confluence of a stream flowing down from the slopes of Peña Ezcaurre, creating a crystal-clear pool surrounded by dense vegetation and perpetual shade. The waterfall, also known as Belabartze in Basque, is a highlight of the SL-NA 79 circular trail (Artikomendia Trail), which connects Isaba with the French border via the GR-11. From the viewing point, you can see the water cascading over a bed of dark rocks, with a wooden walkway that allows access to the base without stepping into the stream. The surrounding area is of great biological interest, featuring mature beech and fir forests that, in the fall (October–November), burst into a palette of ochres and reds—an ideal time for photography. The waterfall is mentioned in reputable guidebooks as “one of the great secrets of the Navarrese Pyrenees” and is featured on family-friendly hiking routes, although its 10-kilometer length is not recommended for very young children. The area is protected as part of the Roncal Valley’s natural landscape, though it lacks a broader, specific protected status; however, its cultural significance is reflected in local legends about “valleys of secrets.” The best time to visit is in the fall, when the forest changes color, or in the spring after the rains, when the water flow is at its peak. The soft light of morning or sunset enhances the view of the waterfall without excessive glare.
