La Mea waterfall

CASCADA

La Mea Waterfall is a seasonal waterfall located in the surroundings of Puentedey, in the Merindad de Sotoscueva, Burgos, within the natural area of Ojo Guareña. The official itinerary of the Tourism of Castilla y León identifies it as route PRC-BU 36, with a linear and short route, designed for a visit on foot from the road between Puentedey and Quintanilla-Valdebodres. It is a waterfall embedded in a limestone ravine, fed by rainwater and meltwater collected by the stream of Mea, from the surroundings of the Canales de Dulla. Its fall occurs over a rock cut and, when it carries water, the whole offers a very marked image of karst landscape, with walls and a narrow channel shaped by erosion. The most interesting thing for the visitor is the combination between the waterfall and the small canyon that shelters it, where there are formations and riverside and hillside vegetation such as gall oaks, holm oaks, maples, poplars and willows. The waterfall does not have a continuous flow, so its presence depends a lot on recent rains or snowmelt, and therefore its scenic interest is especially high at those times. Its tourist value is also based on its proximity to Puentedey, one of the most unique enclaves of the Merindades region due to its natural bridge over the Nela river. In this context, the visit is usually understood as a brief excursion that allows to see two very remarkable geological elements in the same environment: the modeling of the water on the limestone rock and the rural landscape of the region.

San Pelayo Church

San Pelayo Church

Iglesia / Ermita

The Church of San Pelayo de Puentedey is a Romanesque church located in the town of Puentedey, in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, next to the unique natural bridge on which sits part of the village. The reference coordinates place it at 42.97630, -3.68683, within the historic center of the town. It is a temple of medieval origin, built in the twelfth century on the remains of a previous church documented since the eleventh century. The main Romanesque structure has been preserved, although later reforms incorporated Gothic and Baroque elements, which explains its mixed character within the religious heritage of Las Merindades. Among the outstanding heritage elements are the sculptural façade, the semicircular apse and the baroque altarpiece. The building has traditionally served as the parish church of the town, and its location, on the surroundings of the natural bridge of Puentedey, gives it a unique landscape and heritage value.

Bowling Museum

Museo

The Puentedey Bowling Museum is an ethnographic and monographic museum dedicated to the traditional game of bowling, one of the most deeply rooted expressions of the cultural heritage of Las Merindades and other areas of Spain. It is located in Puentedey, in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, at coordinates 42.97630, -3.68683. The available documentation places it in the old restored horseshoeing colt, a building reused to house the exhibition. Inside the building there are bowling pins from different regions, as well as pieces and explanatory panels on the traditional modalities, the history of the game and its presence in rural life. Some sources also highlight the presence of a restored mill in the visitable set. Therefore, the resource is not a historic-artistic monument in the classic sense, but a cultural facility of a heritage nature focused on the conservation and dissemination of a traditional sport. Its value lies in the staging of a popular practice transmitted for centuries and in the recovery of a traditional space in the old town of Puentedey.
