Amigo Lobo Classroom
MuseoThe Aula Amigo Lobo is a museum or educational exhibition space located in Poza de la Sal, in the province of Burgos, Castile and León, with coordinates 42.66711, -3.50149. It is dedicated to the Iberian wolf and to Carlos Sanz, a science communicator and contributor to Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente’s television programs, which links it directly to the town’s naturalist tradition. Given its content, it is best classified as a museum center focused on wildlife interpretation and environmental education, rather than as a historical-artistic museum. The available information does not specify a founding date or construction period, so it is not possible to attribute a specific century of origin or architectural style without risk of error. Its heritage value is primarily educational and ethnographic, as it reinforces Poza de la Sal’s local identity as a place associated with nature, scientific outreach, and the legacy of Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente. The town is also part of the historic landscape of the salt flats and the town’s traditional historic center, although this context pertains to the surrounding area rather than the classroom itself.

Las Salinas Interpretation Center
MuseoThe Poza de la Sal Royal Salt Flats Interpretation Center is a museum dedicated to explaining the history, geology, and traditional operation of the salt flats in this town in the province of Burgos. It is located in Poza de la Sal, in the province of Burgos, and occupies the former Administration Building of the Royal Salt Flats, at C/ El Depósito, s/n, near the salt flats complex. Construction of the building began in 1786, during the reign of Charles III, and thus reflects the architectural style of the Age of Enlightenment. It opened to the public as a museum in July 2003, with the aim of raising awareness about the phenomenon of salt diapirs, the associated industrial heritage, and the lives of the last salt workers. The museum preserves and highlights a site closely linked to the economic history of Poza de la Sal, whose development was shaped for centuries by salt production. The saltworks complex is also protected as a Historic Site, which reinforces the cultural significance of the site. Its exhibits include educational resources such as models, reconstructions, explanatory panels, and an interpretive classroom, designed to offer an informative tour of the salt mining system and the unique landscape of the diapir.

NATURALThe Diapiro de Poza is a large geological structure of saline materials outcropping on the surface, visible as a circular depression reminiscent of a crater. In its center appears the Castelar, with outcrops of ophite and salt, and the whole reaches about 2.5 km in diameter, making it one of the most unique saline landscapes in the province of Burgos.[11 From the point of visit, the closed shape of the relief, the slopes that descend towards the basin and the environment of the old salt mines, where there are still remains of exploitation and storage linked to an activity documented since Roman times and maintained until the twentieth century, are well appreciated. The reading of the landscape is clear: an exceptional geology that has conditioned the economic history and layout of the village. The informative bibliography and geological inventories place it among the most spectacular diapirs in Spain, and the place also has heritage recognition as a Historic Site in the area of the Poza de la Sal Salt Flats. The visit is especially interesting with side light, early in the morning or late afternoon, when the circular relief and the slopes can be read more clearly. If you have time, it is advisable to combine the observation of the diapir with the interpretation center and the tour of the rehabilitated salt pans, which help to understand the relationship between geology, landscape and salt exploitation.

Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente's Environmental Program
Centro de interpretaciónThe Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Environmental Center is an interpretation center located in Poza de la Sal (Burgos), at Plaza de la Villa, 2, next to City Hall. It is dedicated to commemorating the life, childhood, and legacy of the naturalist from Poza de la Sal through an educational tour exploring his relationship with the environment in which he grew up and the landscape that shaped his sensitivity toward nature. It is a heritage and environmental tourist attraction, not a historical-artistic monument in and of itself. Institutional sources identify it as the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Children’s Environmental Center, part of the Castile and León Museum Network and also described as an interpretation center. Its primary function is interpretive and educational, featuring testimonies from family members and friends that help reconstruct the broadcaster’s personal and environmental memories. The sources consulted do not provide a specific architectural chronology or a relevant architectural style; therefore, it is not appropriate to attribute a specific century of construction or a stylistic classification to the site. Its heritage value lies in its exhibition content and its biographical connection to Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, born in Poza de la Sal in 1928, a key figure in the popularization of natural history in Spain. The facility is part of the cultural offerings of Poza de la Sal, a town in the province of Burgos of notable historical and scenic value, where the story of Félix is integrated into a broader interpretive itinerary of the region and local memory.

Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian
Iglesia / ErmitaThe Church of San Cosme and San Damián is the parish church of Poza de la Sal (Burgos), in Castile and León, located at coordinates 42.66589, -3.50143. It is a Catholic church dedicated to two saints, identified in sources as either the church or the parish church of the municipality. Its main structure dates to the late 13th and early 14th centuries, although other sources place it between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. In any case, the building underwent subsequent renovations, with additions from the 16th century and the Baroque period, which explains its composite historical appearance. The church features three naves separated by composite pillars and covered with ribbed vaults; a transept is also documented, and some descriptions mention straight apses. Notable additions include the Escalona Chapel, the work of stonemason Pedro de Castañeda, and a high choir loft placed at the foot of the central nave during the Baroque period. The church also houses a small parish museum with pieces of sacred art, comprising archaeological finds and items from the parish treasury. Its heritage significance was recognized when it was designated a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1974, a status now equivalent to Site of Cultural Interest.

Pozas de las Salinas
PARAJEThe Pozas de las Salinas de Poza de la Sal are part of the great historical salt works of this town in Burgos, located on the eastern edge of the Páramo de Masa, where the terrain descends sharply towards the Bureba. The enclave sits on a diapir of great geological singularity, described as a depression of about 2.5 km in diameter, with evaporitic outcrops and a very characteristic morphology that explains the presence of salt on the surface. The most interesting thing for the visitor is the combination of landscape and traditional industrial heritage. Here are preserved elements linked to salt extraction, such as wells, canals, galleries, huts and warehouses, which allow us to understand how this resource was used from Roman times to the present day. The tour offers a clear reading of the link between the geology of the place and the human activity that shaped the environment. Its relevance is twofold: on the one hand, it is one of the most didactic and recognizable diapirs in Castilla y León; on the other hand, it maintains the historical value of a salt exploitation that gave identity to the town. The complex was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest as a Historic Site in 2001, which reinforces its heritage and landscape interest. For a demanding visit, the site stands out for its ability to explain, in the same space, an exceptional geological phenomenon and a cultural landscape built around salt.
