Capilla de San Brais
Iglesia / ErmitaThe Chapel of San Brais is a chapel located in Ponte Maceira, in the municipality of Negreira, province of A Coruña, next to the monumental complex of the bridge over the Tambre. Tourist sources describe it as a visitable resource and place it precisely at coordinates 42.90244, -8.69296. It is a neoclassical construction of the eighteenth century, built as a small temple of local devotion. In some descriptions it appears linked to the dedication of San Blas or San Brais, a saint deeply rooted in the popular tradition of the place. The building is integrated in the historical landscape of Ponte Maceira, an enclave of great patrimonial interest due to its medieval bridge, mills and other traditional elements. The chapel occupies a prominent point at the end of the bridge, reinforcing the monumental reading of the complex and its relationship with the old road and the historical communications of the area. Recent informative bibliography also indicates that the temple was later enlarged with a neo-Romanesque apse, so it presents an architectural evolution with a mixture of phases, although the main body is still identified as neoclassical of the eighteenth century.
