CastilloPeñíscola Castle is a medieval fortress and papal palace located in the historic center of Peñíscola, in the province of Castellón, on the rocky crag that dominates the Mediterranean coast. Its reference coordinates place it in the walled enclosure of the city, a strategic enclave that explains its defensive function and its strong relationship with the sea. It was built in the 13th century by the Knights Templar and later, in the 15th century, it became the papal residence of Benedict XIII, Pope Luna.
