Isabel II Reservoir · Níjar
MULTIEXPERIENCIA
The Isabel II reservoir, also known as the Níjar reservoir, is located about 6 km from the town center, on the southern slope of Sierra Alhamilla. Built on the Rambla del Carrizalejo, taking advantage of the Los Tristanes ravine, its dam - raised with quarry blocks from a nearby quarry - is 35 meters high and has a reservoir capacity of 5 hm³. It dates from the time when the area depended on the former Confederación Hidrográfica del Sur, whose powers were transferred in 2005 to the Agencia Andaluza del Agua (Andalusian Water Agency). It still preserves remains of the spiral staircase and original mechanisms.
