The Torre del Consell is a square tower with a viewing platform at the top. Tradition has it that King Jaume I entered through the pointed archway at the bottom after reaching an agreement with the Aragonese nobleman Blasco de Alagón in late 1231. For this reason, it is known as the Portal del Rey.
