The Pereroles Municipal Natural Area is a vast forest of mature black pine (Pinus nigra) that stretches across the slopes of the Serra de Sant Marc, in the Northwestern Iberian System, at an elevation between 970 and 1,250 meters. Covering an area of 360.67 hectares, this protected area—designated in 2010 by the Valencian Regional Government—is a site of great ecological, scenic, hydrological, and recreational value. The tree canopy, dominated by black pine, shelters a rich stratification of vegetation beneath it, including holly, guillomo, mostajo, and quejigos, while herbaceous cover reaches nearly 100% during favorable months. The fauna is diverse and rare, including species such as the wildcat, the pine marten, the badger, and the weasel, as well as an abundant avifauna with 104 recorded species, of which nearly 20% are threatened to some degree. The area is included in the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) La Tinença de Benifassà-Turmell and in the Site of Community Importance (SCI) Tinença de Benifassà, Turmell, and Vallivana, forming part of the Natura 2000 Network. Its significance is further enhanced by its extensive public use, thanks to a network of trails connecting it to nearby towns and accommodations such as three fully equipped shelters and campsites with a capacity for 120 people. The best time to visit is between spring and fall, when the herbaceous vegetation is at its peak and weather conditions are most favorable for hiking.

Morella is a historic and tourist site located in Morella, Castellón, in the Ports region, occupying a strategically important location on a hill dominated by the castle and surrounded by medieval walls. The municipality is recognized as a Historic-Artistic Site, and its urban landscape is centered around the walled enclosure, with towers and gateways that preserve the town’s defensive character. Among the most notable monuments is Morella Castle, a medieval fortress that overlooks the town and attests to its military and border-defending role over the centuries. Also noteworthy are the city walls, which run continuously and feature towers and gateways, as well as the Convent of San Francisco, a 13th–14th-century complex linked to the Franciscan Order and now converted into a tourist and cultural site. The historic center also preserves religious and civil buildings of great heritage value, seamlessly integrated into the traditional urban fabric. As for museums, Morella boasts several leading exhibition spaces, including the Temps de Dinosaures Museum, the Sexenni Museum, and the Archpriest’s Museum, which complement the heritage tour with exhibits on paleontology, traditional festivals, and sacred art. This collection reinforces the town’s cultural value beyond its monuments, offering a comprehensive view of its history, religious traditions, and popular celebrations. A short distance from the town center are also the cave paintings of Morella la Vella, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the rock art of the Mediterranean arc, dating back to between 9,000 and 5,000 years ago. Although they are not an urban monument, they form an essential part of the municipality’s heritage sites open to visitors and round out Morella’s profile as a premier heritage destination.

Toll Negre is a natural site located in the Els Ports region, near La Mata de Morella, in the province of Castellón. It is a natural reservoir of fluvial origin, formed by the accumulation of water in a depression in the ground, the exact depth of which is unknown. The surroundings are dominated by the typical vegetation of the Maestrazgo mountain range: holm oaks, oak trees, and mountain scrub, creating a breathtaking and unique landscape in the Valencian Community. From the viewing point, one can appreciate the calm of the dark water, surrounded by rocks and trees, in a wild and tranquil setting that invites rest and contemplation. The site is mentioned in regional travel guides as one of the outstanding natural areas of La Mata de Morella, alongside Les Calderetes and the Tossal de la Mata. Although it does not have a specific official protected status, its inclusion in tourist publications and local guides makes it a landmark of the natural landscape of Els Ports. The best time to visit is during spring or summer, when the weather is warmer and the water offers a refreshing dip, especially from June through September.
