Mogrovejo Tower · Mogrovejo

The Tower of Mogrovejo, built in the late thirteenth century, stands on a hillside of the Picos de Europa, overlooking the town. It belongs to the ancient lords of Mogrovejo, a lineage documented as early as 1248. With 21 meters high, square floor and crenellated top, it preserves twin windows and elevated access. In its surroundings there is a nineteenth-century mansion with portraits of the counts and a baroque chapel. The complex, surrounded by a high wall, is in the process of restoration. From this tower comes the tomb of the Counts, today in the National Museum of Valladolid.
