Church of Our Lady of the Assumption · Linares de Mora

POI

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Castelvispal, also known as the Church of the Assumption, is the main religious site in this small town, which is part of Linares de Mora. It is located in the Plaza de la Iglesia, at the tip of the rocky outcrop on which the town center sits, overlooking the Linares River valley. The church stands as one of the primary examples of Castelvispal’s medieval origins. Its location on the high ground of the village reflects the town’s historical layout, built on a spur next to the Linares River. Despite its modest size, it preserves architectural elements that reveal different stages of its history: the pointed arches and the structure of the nave recall its medieval origins, while the choir and the tower reflect later alterations. The church continues to serve as the parish church of Castelvispal, dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. The Diocese of Teruel and Albarracín includes it among the parishes of the diocese. Overall, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is one of Castelvispal’s most important heritage sites. Its small size, its medieval architecture, the bell tower, and its privileged location overlooking the valley combine with the traditional village houses and the old cemetery to form a very distinctive ensemble.
