Royal Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe (XII-XVIII centuries) · Guadalupe
MULTIEXPERIENCIA
Nestled in the heart of Las Villuercas, the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe is a spiritual and artistic reference of Extremadura. It was founded in the 14th century after the miraculous apparition of the Virgin to the shepherd Gil Cordero, and grew under the patronage of Alfonso XI. For centuries, it was a center of devotion and culture, guarded by the Hieronymites and later by the Franciscans. Its architecture combines Gothic, Mudejar and Baroque styles. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1993, it houses works by Zurbarán, El Greco and valuable museums. Every September 8, it is the epicenter of the Extremaduran festivity.
