The Fernando Centeno López Museum of Contemporary Art is a contemporary art museum located in Genalguacil, in the province of Málaga, as part of the cultural project known as Genalguacil Pueblo Museo. It is located in the town center, in an exhibition space linked to the town’s artistic transformation and the preservation of works created for its Art Encounters. It was inaugurated in 2004 and, according to local sources consulted, was established to house and protect contemporary works that could not remain outdoors. In 2012, it was renamed the Fernando Centeno Museum of Contemporary Art, in honor of Fernando Centeno López, the driving force behind the Art Encounters and mayor of the town for two decades. The building is housed in a restored old mill, a key detail for understanding its adaptation of a historic structure for museum use. The museum features a collection of works contributed by artists participating in the Art Encounters, combining a permanent exhibition with temporary displays, and has become one of Genalguacil’s cultural landmarks. Its heritage value lies not only in the collection but also in its role as the centerpiece of a unique “museum-town” model, where contemporary art is an integral part of the local identity and the town’s tourist itinerary.

The Genalguacil Pinsapar is a relict forest of Spanish fir (Abies pinsapo), a species endemic to the southern Iberian Peninsula that constitutes one of the region’s most unique plant communities due to its small size and high ecological value. It is located in the Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja Natural Area, between the municipalities of Estepona and Genalguacil, in the province of Málaga, and represents the only population of Spanish firs growing on peridotites, rocks of volcanic origin. The forest features a dense, often monospecific tree canopy that resembles a boreal coniferous forest, yet is situated in a region with a Mediterranean climate. From the visitor area—especially at Plaza de los Pinsapos—visitors can observe a setting of large fir trees, mountain vegetation, and a wild landscape of great beauty, with the added advantage of being the only pinsapo forest in the world accessible by paved road. This natural area is protected as a Natural Site and is featured in reputable hiking guides due to its significance as a glacial relic and its geological uniqueness. The best time to visit is in spring or fall, when the weather is milder and the vegetation is at its most vibrant, avoiding the intense summer drought.
