Sant Maurici Lake

Sant Maurici Lake

PARAJE

The Estany de Sant Maurici is a mountain lake in the National Park of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, in a high mountain environment of remarkable scenic and environmental value. It is located in the Pyrenean area of Lleida and, for the visitor departing from Garòs, is a natural reference of the first order linked to the network of accesses to the valley. It is a natural resource of lacustrine typology, integrated in a landscape of glacial origin and surrounded by abrupt reliefs, forest masses and mountain meadows. Its interest lies in the combination of water, rock and high altitude vegetation, which offers a very representative image of the central Pyrenees and the protected environments of the area. Its main relevance is environmental, being part of a national park, one of the most demanding protection figures of the Spanish system. This condition explains its value for the conservation of high mountain ecosystems and for the orderly visit of nature, hiking and landscape observation. In tourist reference sources, it also appears as one of the best-known enclaves of the Aigüestortes environment, cited for its accessibility and its interest as a hiking and scenic landmark.

Parish Church of San Julián de Garós

Parish Church of San Julián de Garós

Iglesia / Ermita

The Parish Church of San Julián de Garós is a parish church in the town of Garòs, in the municipality of Naut Aran, province of Lleida, in the Aran Valley. It is a church of Romanesque origin, located in the historic center of the village and linked to the small Pyrenean settlement that characterizes this area of the High Aran. Its main construction dates from the 12th century, although it was significantly renovated in the 14th-15th centuries, with the incorporation of Gothic elements; some descriptions also point to later contributions from the 16th and 17th centuries. Therefore, the building presents a historical mixture of Romanesque and Gothic, with later additions that reflect its evolution over time. Among its outstanding heritage elements are the square tower bell tower, as well as the Gothic apse and the primitive Romanesque nave. Inside, a carved Christ, a Gothic image of the Virgin and a Baroque high altar dated 1776 have been documented, which reinforces its artistic and liturgical interest. The temple is part of the traditional religious heritage of Garòs and is one of the main monumental landmarks of the village. Its value lies both in its antiquity and in the superposition of constructive phases that allow us to read the medieval and modern history of the building.

Paleochristian Necropolis of Deth Taro

Patrimonio arqueológico

The Paleochristian Necropolis of Deth Taro is an archaeological heritage resource located in Garòs, in the municipality of Naut Aran, province of Lleida, in the Val d'Aran. It is located at the end of the town center, in the immediate vicinity of the Calvary road, from the church of Sant Julià, at the indicated coordinate of 42.70022, 0.84667. It is a funerary complex from the early Christian period, linked to the first moments of Christianity in the valley. Local tourist sources indicate that at this point are preserved remains of an ancient necropolis, now integrated into the heritage landscape of Garòs and associated with the historical itinerary of the village. Due to its archaeological nature, the value of the site lies in the material documentation of early burial practices and their relationship with the historical occupation of the enclave. There is no precise chronology of construction in the sources consulted; therefore, it should be described only as a paleochristian necropolis, without attributing a specific century if a specialized reference is not provided. The resource is understood within the historical heritage of Garòs, where the parish church of Sant Julià, of medieval origin and with later reforms, also stands out. The necropolis complements this ensemble and helps to explain the continuity of human and religious occupation in this sector of the Aran Valley.
