The historic center of Garachico, declared of Cultural Interest, is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Tenerife. Founded in 1496 by the Genoese Cristóbal de Ponte, it still preserves churches, small palaces and convents that evoke its past splendor. Among its jewels are the hermitage of San Roque, the former convent of Santo Domingo, the Casa del Marqués de la Quinta Roja or the Castillo de San Miguel. Its squares, such as La Libertad or Las Lonjas, invite you to rest in a serene environment. In 1980 it received the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, in recognition of its heritage value.
