Ecce Homo Hermitage
Iglesia / ErmitaThe Ecce Homo Hermitage is a small hermitage or chapel in Frigiliana (Málaga), also known by the locals as Ermita del Santo Cristo de la Caña. It is a religious heritage resource of modest scale, located on the outskirts of the town center, in the vicinity of the ring road to the road to Torrox, according to available descriptions. The sources consulted place it in the 18th century. Architecturally, it has a single nave, covered with a wooden gabled roof, and an entrance preceded by a small atrium or portico with a semicircular arch. In its interior a simple altar and a niche with the titular image are documented, surrounded by an altarpiece of very simple composition. Its historical and devotional interest is linked to the Christian celebrations of Frigiliana, especially during Holy Week, when the image of the Ecce Homo is carried in procession. The local processional tradition dates back to the 16th century, although the current carving is later, of neo-baroque style and contemporary dating. For its typology and its formal sobriety, the hermitage fits in the Andalusian minor religious architecture of modern times, preserving very characteristic elements of the local worship and the patrimonial landscape of Frigiliana.

Church of San Antonio de Padua
Iglesia / ErmitaThe Church of San Antonio de Padua is the parish church of Frigiliana (Malaga), located in the historic center of the town, next to the traditional layout of the village and in the surroundings of the Moorish quarter of Barribarto. The sources identify it as a temple of strong historical-artistic value within the cultural landscape of the Axarquia, associated with the Christian conquest of the ancient Andalusian farmhouse. The parish was built in the seventeenth century; some references place its origin in a previous church of the fifteenth century on the same site, although the current construction corresponds mainly to the sixteenth century. Its architecture is described as simple and elegant, with features of Renaissance tradition and later reformed, so it can be understood as a transitional building between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Among its most outstanding elements are the whitewashed façade, the three-part bell tower and the Latin cross plan. The interior is organized in three naves, with a choir loft at the base, and preserves an image closely linked to the local identity. The consulted documentation also underlines its symbolic role as one of the main religious and patrimonial landmarks of Frigiliana.

Palace of the Counts of Frigiliana (El Ingenio)
Palacio / Casa señorialThe Palace of the Counts of Frigiliana, popularly known as El Ingenio, is a palace or manor house in Frigiliana (Malaga), integrated in the historic center of the municipality and today linked to the Cane Honey Factory Nuestra Señora del Carmen. It is one of the most representative civil buildings of the town and a key testimony of its urban evolution after the late medieval period. The construction is located in the sixteenth century, at the time of the lords of Frigiliana de la خاندان Manrique de Lara, and responds to a Renaissance architectural language, with survivals or reuse of old materials in part of the building. The heritage documentation cited in the decree of the Historic Site of Frigiliana describes it as a work of the late sixteenth century. Among its most outstanding features are its large scale, the organization on two floors and the relationship with the old fortress of Lízar, from which reused ashlars come from according to several sources. Also mentioned are elements such as the incised al secco painting on its walls and the industrial function it maintains in its interior, housing the only active cane honey factory in continental Europe. Its heritage value is not only architectural, but also historical and industrial, because it reflects the passage of the Andalusian village to modern Christian villa and the early implementation of agro-industrial activities in Frigiliana. Because of its location, it should be understood as a heritage resource of the urban center of Frigiliana, in the province of Malaga, and not of another municipality of the same name or of Mijas or other localities.

Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Site
Parque natural / Espacio naturalThe Paraje Natural Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo is a natural maritime-terrestrial space of the eastern coast of Malaga, on the border with Granada, although the location that you give for Frigiliana corresponds to its environment of influence in the region of the Axarquia. It extends along about 12 km of coastline, with an approximate area of 1,913 ha and a marine strip that penetrates a mile out to sea; the maximum elevation reaches 325 m. It was declared a protected area by Law 2/1989 and then expanded and ordered as a Special Area of Conservation in 2015. The most characteristic features of the site are its limestone cliffs, coves, small beaches and steep slopes, with a very abrupt and little transformed coastal landscape. Among its natural values are the coexistence of terrestrial and marine environments and the presence of vegetation adapted to aridity and saltpeter, with species of Mediterranean and coastal scrub. It is interesting to visit it for its panoramic views over the Mediterranean, its natural viewpoints and the geological reading of the coastal front, where the relationship between relief, sea and vegetation can be clearly appreciated. In addition to its scenic attraction, it is a relevant enclave for its environmental protection and for preserving one of the best preserved maritime-terrestrial stretches of this Andalusian coast. In the official documentation it is also listed as an area of special importance for conservation, with figures such as ZEC and ZEPA associated with the Natura 2000 Network. Its interest for the visitor is in the coastal landscape and the ecological value of the whole, not in large facilities; it should be understood as a space for observation and quiet tour, especially suitable for those looking for coastal nature with its own identity.
