MULTIEXPERIENCIA

The Burgense Seminary, founded in 1583 for the formation of the clergy, was closely linked to the College-University of Santa Catalina, since its classrooms were in the university building, administered by the rector, and its income depended on it. After the extinction of the University, Calderón and Eleta proposed to strengthen the Seminary and make it independent. In 1779, Eleta, inspired by a Royal Decree of 1768, communicated his intention to create a college for college students of the bishopric. The City Council ceded the land, and in 1785 work began, directed by Luis de Bernasconi. Eleta, as bishop, supervised the Seminary, which continued studies after the suppression of the University. In 1787, he requested more land to expand the center, which was granted.
