Church of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza (XVI century, rebuilt in the XVII century) · Capileira

MULTIEXPERIENCIA

In the middle district of Capileira stands the church of the Virgen de la Cabeza, a temple rebuilt between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. In its interior stands the image of the Virgin, donated by the Catholic Monarchs in the fifteenth century, and a baroque gilded altarpiece of the seventeenth century. The festival in honor of the patron saint is held the last weekend of April and is repeated in August so that emigrants can attend. The locals decorate the Virgin with fresh flowers and, amidst "little devil" costumes, close the celebration with the traditional and enigmatic "burial of the fox".
