Camprodon and Pont Nou · Beget

POI

Camprodon is an ancient village located in the center of the Camprodon Valley, which is born at the confluence of the rivers Ter and Ritort and offers great mountain views of the eastern Pyrenees, Romanesque temples and modernist summer houses. With a rich commercial life, with promenades and avenues, and a wide gastronomic, sports and cultural offer, all in an incredible natural environment. The Pont Nou de Camprodon is one of the great medieval icons of the Catalan Pyrenees and the most recognizable image of the town. Although its name means "New Bridge", this magnificent stone bridge has its roots in the Middle Ages. Built between the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries, it stands over the Ter River, very close to its meeting with the Ritort, marking for centuries the historic entrance to Camprodon. Its silhouette is unmistakable: a large stone arch, double slope profile and a defensive tower that preserves the old gate of Cerdanya. The road that connected the village with La Cerdanya used to pass through here, making the bridge a strategic place for travelers, merchants and inhabitants of the valley. Today, the Pont Nou is not only a work of medieval engineering; it is the sentimental symbol of Camprodon. Its presence over the river, framed by the stone houses and the Pyrenean landscape, summarizes like few other places the historical, mountainous and serene beauty of this village of Ripollès.
