Área Recreativa Playa del Tamujoso

PARAJE

The Playa del Tamujoso Recreational Area is a developed inland beach located next to the Rumblar Reservoir, in the municipality of Baños de la Encina (Jaén). Physically, it consists of a slate-covered shoreline with reddish sand that contrasts with the reservoir’s crystal-clear waters, surrounded by a reforested area composed mainly of pine and eucalyptus trees that provide shade and enhance the landscape. The geological landscape is shaped by the area’s former mining activity, which explains the presence of slate on the ground. From the observation point, one can see a calm expanse of water nestled between the mountain range and the olive groves of the countryside, with views toward the “green sea” of olive trees in the Sierra Mágina. The site’s appeal lies in the combination of an accessible shoreline, water safe for swimming, and a tree-lined area that invites relaxation; it is a popular spot for summer recreation and outdoor activities such as walking and light water sports. Its significance is primarily recreational and scenic within the municipality’s nature tourism offerings, as the area is known for its historical heritage and rural resources. The Rumblar Reservoir, built in 1841, is designated as a Site of Community Interest and is located within the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park. The area is suitable for swimming and offers activities such as sailing, canoeing, and paddleboarding, with municipal initiatives promoting these activities during the summer. The best time to visit is during the summer months (June through September), when the water is warm enough for swimming and the shade of the trees provides essential relief from the heat of the mountains.
