Campanario de la iglesia de Bagergue

Campanario de la iglesia de Bagergue

Iglesia / Ermita

The bell tower of the church of Bagergue is part of the parish church of Sant Feliu, in Bagergue (Naut Aran, Lleida), and the resource is correctly identified as an element of the local religious architecture, not as an independent building. The parish church is of Romanesque origin and dates from the 13th century, with later alterations and extensions that altered its original configuration. The location indicated, in the center of Bagergue, coincides with the documented location of the temple. The most visible element is the bell tower, with a square base and pyramidal top, integrated in a complex that preserves Romanesque features and later additions. Municipal and tourist sources describe a nave that formerly had a barrel vault, with two chapels per side and preserved former arches, as well as a western door with three archivolts in degradation. The whole presents, therefore, a mixture of Romanesque and Baroque or modern transformations. Among the outstanding patrimonial elements of the interior, a stone altar altar of pre-Romanesque tradition, a Christ of Gothic transition and a Renaissance image of the Virgin in the chapel of the presbytery are documented. A pre-Romanesque funerary stele of interest is also mentioned. The construction history of the temple includes an enlargement in 1524 and successive reforms, which explains the stratified character of the building. Because of its chronology, artistic value and survival in the historical landscape of the village, the bell tower is one of the heritage landmarks of Bagergue and a relevant testimony of the evolution of the church of Sant Feliu from its medieval construction to its later modifications.

Santa Margalida Chapel

Iglesia / Ermita

The Santa Margalida Chapel is a religious chapel or church located in the municipality of Bagergue, in the Aran Valley (Lleida, Catalonia), on the outskirts of the town and along the Liat road. This heritage site is located at coordinates 42.72845, 0.91672, and is one of the town’s tourist and cultural attractions. The sources consulted describe it as a Romanesque chapel dating to the 12th–13th centuries, making it part of the medieval religious architecture characteristic of the Aran Valley. This chronological and stylistic classification is the most precise information available in the sources reviewed; no more detailed data on subsequent construction phases or specific alterations is provided in them. It is a sanctuary of local devotion, associated with an annual pilgrimage in July that retains its traditional role in the religious life of the area. Its location, somewhat removed from the hamlet and offering a view of the mountain landscape, reinforces its value as a heritage landmark in the Bagergue area. The documentation consulted does not clearly identify any notable interior artistic elements; therefore, unverified attributions should be avoided. A reconstruction commemorating its six decades is mentioned, suggesting a recent history of heritage conservation, though without altering its medieval origins.

RUTA_CORTA

The Bagergue-Unha Trail is a short, linear route of 1.8 km that connects two villages in the Aran Valley, descending from the upper part of Bagergue toward Unha along the old path that follows the trail toward the Barradós Valley. The trail runs alongside the Unhòla River, with riverside vegetation providing shade and coolness, passing through a landscape of forests and Pyrenean hillsides in the high-mountain setting of the Aran region. The approximate elevation gain is 139 m, making this hike short and accessible to most visitors. The trail passes near the ruins of the old Bagergue flour mill, situated in a beautiful spot next to the river. Its main appeal lies in combining gentle hiking with rural heritage, allowing hikers to set out from the square and the Romanesque church of Sant Fèlix in Bagergue and reach the village of Unha via a historic route connecting the two towns. The route is notable for its inclusion in local guidebooks and its protected status within the region, which has held the “Biosphere Destination” designation since 2014, recognizing the importance of responsible and sustainable tourism in the Val d’Aran.
