Bell tower of the church of Bagergue

Bell tower of the church of Bagergue

Iglesia / Ermita

The bell tower of the church of Bagergue is part of the parish church of Sant Feliu, in Bagergue (Naut Aran, Lleida), and the resource is correctly identified as an element of the local religious architecture, not as an independent building. The parish church is of Romanesque origin and dates from the 13th century, with later alterations and extensions that altered its original configuration. The location indicated, in the center of Bagergue, coincides with the documented location of the temple. The most visible element is the bell tower, with a square base and pyramidal top, integrated in a complex that preserves Romanesque features and later additions. Municipal and tourist sources describe a nave that formerly had a barrel vault, with two chapels per side and preserved former arches, as well as a western door with three archivolts in degradation. The whole presents, therefore, a mixture of Romanesque and Baroque or modern transformations. Among the outstanding patrimonial elements of the interior, a stone altar altar of pre-Romanesque tradition, a Christ of Gothic transition and a Renaissance image of the Virgin in the chapel of the presbytery are documented. A pre-Romanesque funerary stele of interest is also mentioned. The construction history of the temple includes an enlargement in 1524 and successive reforms, which explains the stratified character of the building. Because of its chronology, artistic value and survival in the historical landscape of the village, the bell tower is one of the heritage landmarks of Bagergue and a relevant testimony of the evolution of the church of Sant Feliu from its medieval construction to its later modifications.

Hermitage of Santa Margalida

Hermitage of Santa Margalida

Iglesia / Ermita

The Hermitage of Santa Margalida is a hermitage or church of religious character located in the municipality of Bagergue, in the Aran Valley (Lleida, Catalonia), on the outskirts of the town and in the area of the Liat road. The heritage resource is located at coordinates 42.72845, 0.91672, and is part of the tourist and cultural elements linked to the village. The sources consulted describe it as a Romanesque hermitage dating from the XII-XIII centuries, so it is part of the medieval religious architecture of the Aran Valley. This chronological and stylistic ascription is the most precise reference available in the sources reviewed; no more detailed data on later construction phases or specific interventions can be found in them. It is a sanctuary of local devotion, associated with an annual pilgrimage in July that conserves its traditional function in the religious life of the place. Its location, somewhat removed from the hamlet and in visual relation with the mountain landscape, reinforces its value as a heritage landmark in the Bagergue area. The documentation consulted does not clearly show any outstanding interior artistic elements, so it is advisable to avoid unverified attributions. There is mention of a reconstruction commemorating its six decades, which suggests a recent history of heritage conservation, although without replacing its medieval origin.

Church of Sant Fèlix de Bagergue

Church of Sant Fèlix de Bagergue

Iglesia / Ermita

The church of Sant Fèlix de Bagergue is a parish church in Bagergue, in the municipality of Naut Aran, province of Lleida, in the Aran Valley. The tourist card identifies it as a church, and its location corresponds to the town of Bagergue, at coordinates 42.71812, 0.91538. It is a building of Romanesque origin, generally dated between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries; some sources extend its evolution to the twelfth-fourteenth centuries. There is also evidence of a Baroque reform in the eighteenth century and the construction of the bell tower in 1765, so it has a clear mixture of construction phases. Among its documented patrimonial elements are the western façade with several archivolts, the bell tower with a square base and pyramidal roof, and the nave with lateral chapels. The local devotional tradition also preserves a stone altar altar of pre-Romanesque character and a Renaissance image of the Virgin in a chapel of the presbytery. In the context of the Aranese Romanesque, Sant Fèlix is one of the main historical testimonies of Bagergue and reflects the successive liturgical and architectural adaptations typical of Pyrenean temples.

It is installed in an old rural corral and is dedicated to preserving and displaying the material culture of the Aran Valley, with special attention to traditional domestic life, work and craftsmanship. The sources consulted indicate that it was opened to the public by the Moga family in 1999 as a private museum, taking advantage of a traditional agricultural and livestock space. Its heritage value lies in the breadth and coherence of the collection, which allows us to understand the evolution of daily life in the valley before mechanization and contemporary economic change. The sources do not have their own monumental architectural style, since the main interest of the resource lies in the rural container and in the ethnographic content that it preserves.

Bagergue-Unha Path

RUTA_CORTA

The Bagergue-Unha Path is a short, linear route that links two villages in the Aran Valley along the old path that descends from the upper part of Bagergue to Unha, following the track towards the Barradós valley. It is about 1.8 km long and has an approximate height difference of 139 m, making it a short and accessible hike in the high mountain environment of Aran. The route runs along the Unhòla river, with riparian vegetation that provides shade and freshness, and crosses a landscape of forest and Pyrenean slopes. In some sections there are views of the riverbed and the immediate surroundings of the valley, which allows us to appreciate the transition between the traditional hamlet of Bagergue and the natural environment that surrounds it. Its main interest lies in combining gentle hiking with rural heritage: it allows leaving from the square and the Romanesque church of Sant Fèlix in Bagergue and reaching the center of Unha by a historical road of communication between villages. Near the route there are remains of an old flour mill in Bagergue and another mill preserved in Unha, elements that reinforce the ethnographic value of the path. The route is especially relevant as a nature walk and as a scenic access to the heritage of the Aran Valley, a mountain area well recognized in guides and active tourism proposals. Its simplicity, proximity to water and riverside environment make it a common choice for visitors looking for a short excursion with local identity.
