Aguallueve

Aguallueve

NATURAL

Aguallueve is a spring and natural site in Anento, in the region of Campo de Daroca (Zaragoza), located in a small limestone valley at the foot of the village. It is a karst formation in which several springs, fed by aquifers, ooze continuously over rock and moss, modeling a wet front with small caves and caves and creating a very unique landscape in the interior of Aragon. The most characteristic feature is the constant dripping of water, which gives the place its name and produces the sensation that the rock "cries". The environment is crossed on foot by paths and marked trails, among poplars, pines, blackberries and other species of riparian and scrubland. In winter, when the temperature drops, the drops can freeze and form ice stalactites, one of the most striking features of the enclave. The water is collected in a pond for irrigation of fields and orchards, so bathing is prohibited. Its main interest is scenic and geological, due to the karstic relief and the combination of water, stone and vegetation, in a very visited area due to its rarity and proximity to the historic center of Anento. It is also highlighted in guidebooks and travel media as one of the best known natural resources of the municipality.

Church of San Blas

Church of San Blas

Iglesia / Ermita

The Church of San Blas de Anento, in Anento (Zaragoza, Aragon), is the town’s parish church, although some tourist guides also refer to it as a hermitage due to its size and local character. Construction began in the 13th century in the Romanesque style, as part of the medieval repopulation and consolidation of settlements in the Jiloca Valley. The building features a single rectangular nave with nine bays, pointed arches, and a pointed barrel vault; there is also a documented sacristy attached to the presbytery. These structural features reveal a simple design, typical of rural religious architecture marking the transition from the Romanesque to early Gothic styles. Its most notable heritage feature is the Gothic main altarpiece, attributed to Blasco de Grañén, considered one of the most significant works of Aragonese artistic heritage and notable for its large size and excellent state of preservation. The church has been restored in recent years, restoring part of its historic appearance and reinforcing its status as Anento’s principal heritage monument. The site is located in the town center of Anento, at the indicated coordinates, within a popular rural tourist area centered on the municipality’s medieval heritage.

Torreón de San Cristóbal

Torreón de San Cristóbal

NATURAL

The Torreón de San Cristóbal is an archaeological site of Celtiberian character located in Anento, in the province of Zaragoza, on the Aguallueve Valley. It is a quadrangular structure built with large dry-laid ashlars, dated around 200 BC and associated with the visual control of the middle valley of the Jiloca and its immediate surroundings. Its landscape interest lies in its dominant position over the valley, from which a wide panoramic view of the relief of Anento is obtained, marked by limestone, clayey loams and slopes of strong geomorphological personality. This location allows us to understand the relationship between ancient settlement, territorial surveillance and use of the landscape in pre-Roman times. The visit is interesting both for its historical value and for the natural framework in which it is inserted: an archaeological viewpoint from which the configuration of the valley can be clearly read. In the sources consulted, it also appears linked to local tours of the Aguallueve area, which reinforces its role as a heritage landmark in the landscape of Anento.
