Ecomuseum of the Pyrenean Fauna

Ecomuseum of the Pyrenean Fauna

Museo

The Ecomuseum of the Pyrenean Fauna is a museum of nature and environmental education located in the Castle of Ainsa, in Ainsa (Huesca, Aragon), exactly in the area of the historic center and the Plaza del Castillo. Its location in the keep or in outbuildings of the fortified enclosure links it directly with the monumental complex of the medieval town. The resource is dedicated to the fauna, flora and ecosystems of the Pyrenees, with special attention to birds of prey and bearded vultures, and functions as an interpretation and awareness center for biodiversity conservation. The Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture manages the space and maintains an educational exhibition with panels, models and audiovisuals, as well as a shelter for birds of prey that cannot live in the wild. It is a facility installed in a castle of medieval origin, associated with the eleventh century in the journalistic sources consulted, although the museum itself is of contemporary creation. Therefore, the heritage interest of the resource combines the museum content with the historical value of the building that houses it. The sources reviewed do not provide a specific foundational chronology of the museum or a specific stylistic ascription of the interior; what is clearly documented is its museum function, its location in the castle and its educational vocation on Pyrenean biodiversity.

Cinca Viewpoint

MIRADOR

The Cinca Viewpoint is a panoramic viewpoint in Aínsa, in the Sobrarbe region, designed to contemplate the great Cinca river valley and the immediate Pyrenean environment from a height. In the local tourist information sheets it appears as a visiting resource associated with the town of Aínsa and its mid-mountain landscape, with access on foot along a signposted itinerary. The most outstanding features are the open views over the Cinca valley, the Pyrenees and the old town of Aínsa. From this enclave the relationship between the mountainous relief and the agricultural plain of the environment is well appreciated, a landscape contrast that explains much of the interest of the visit. Its interest is not only scenic: it is part of a set of hiking trails very close to the historic center, in an area linked to the Sobrarbe-Pyrenees Geopark and landscapes of high natural and cultural value. The area is especially suitable to understand the strategic position of Ainsa between valleys, mountains and rivers. Due to its location and name, this viewpoint is identified with the panoramic access known in Aínsa as the Cinca Viewpoint, next to the route to the Covered Cross and the visual front of the valley.
