Santa María Magdalena. It is time for the procession of the Holy Burial that characterizes the Holy Week oliventina, leaving all the brotherhoods and confraternities oliventinas. The Royal Archconfraternity of Our Lord of the Steps goes out with the Recumbent Christ and is accompanied by the Panderinha (of Portuguese origin), which symbolizes the Veronica, a woman who goes in front of the coffin of Jesus and represents a young woman who was making bread, before the ruckus formed when Jesus was going up to Calvary, came out with her white cloth and before the humiliation that Jesus was suffering, she wiped his face. Before that act of courage, Jesus gave her his face in the cloth. Through a song that she sings, on several occasions during the journey, she expresses that there is no pain in the world similar to that which Jesus suffered. This popular tradition is unique. In addition, in this procession also participate the Brotherhood of the Workers with the Passage of St. John; the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of the Descent with the Exaltation of the Cross; the Brotherhood of Our Lady Mary Most Holy of Solitude with the Blessed Virgin of Solitude; the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Mercy with the Flags, carrying the image of the Virgin of Mercy following the coffin and the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of the Prayer in the Garden represented with its Blood Flag. At the end of the procession, the act of burying the image of the Recumbent Christ is carried out. After the appearance of the arruchao or black banner, which is carried on the ground in memory of the torn vestments that were stolen from Christ in the act of the crucifixion, one of the most typical moments of the Holy Week of Olivenza takes place: the singing of the 'Atendite' sung by the Panderinha.
