The procession of the Lord of the Steps The Real Archicofradía del Señor de los Pasos, founded in 1579, is one of the oldest in Olivenza, and maintains the tradition of the procession on Passion Sunday (Domingo de Pasos). It is celebrated on the 5th Sunday of Lent, that is, one week before Palm Sunday. At sunset, the Lord of the Steps, patron saint of Olivenza, makes a Way of the Cross in which he goes through the five altars or steps decorated with tiles located in the streets of Olivenza, starting the Holy Week in Olivenza. The brothers who procession do it in the Portuguese style, with hopas, which are purple capes with the coat of arms on the chest.
