Zambombas
Andalusian gatherings around a bonfire with flamenco-style Christmas carols, zambomba, pandereta and kitchen mortar.
- When
- Weekends in December, before Christmas
- Where
- Andalusia, especially strong in the province of Cádiz
The zambomba is much more than an instrument: it is the festivity where neighbours and families gather in courtyards, squares and social clubs to sing popular carols with a flamenco feel, around a bonfire.
The zambomba, the pandereta, handclaps and even the kitchen mortar are played, and there is no shortage of Christmas sweets or a glass of anís. It is one of the most cheerful and spontaneous ways of welcoming Christmas in the south.
