Midnight Mass (Misa del Gallo) is held at midnight on Christmas Eve to commemorate the birth of Jesus. In many villages it is one of the most anticipated moments of the year, with churches full and choirs singing traditional carols.
In some places it is accompanied by nativity plays, offerings or songs of their own, passed down from generation to generation.
