Poza de la Sal Salt Flats

The Salt Pools of Poza de la Sal are part of the large historic saltworks complex in this town in Burgos, located on the eastern edge of the Páramo de Masa, where the terrain drops sharply toward the Bureba. The site sits atop a diapir of great geological uniqueness, described as a depression about 2.5 km in diameter, with evaporite outcrops and a very distinctive morphology that explains the presence of salt on the surface. The most interesting aspect for visitors is the combination of landscape and traditional industrial heritage. Elements related to salt mining—such as wells, canals, tunnels, huts, and warehouses—are preserved here, offering insight into how this resource was exploited from Roman times to the present day.
