Las Salinas Interpretation Center

The Interpretation Center of the Royal Salt Flats of Poza de la Sal is a museum dedicated to explaining the history, geology, and traditional operation of the salt flats in this town in the province of Burgos. It is located in Poza de la Sal, in the province of Burgos, and occupies the former Administration Building of the Royal Salt Flats, at C/ El Depósito, s/n, near the salt works complex. Construction of the building began in 1786, during the reign of Charles III, and thus reflects the architectural style of the Age of Enlightenment. It opened to the public as a museum in July 2003, with the aim of raising awareness about the salt diapir phenomenon, the associated industrial heritage, and the lives of the last salt workers. The museum preserves and highlights a site closely linked to the economic history of Poza de la Sal, whose development was shaped for centuries by salt production. The saltworks complex is also protected as a Historic Site, which reinforces the cultural significance of the site. Highlights of its exhibits include educational resources such as models, reconstructions, explanatory panels, and an interpretive classroom, all designed to offer an informative tour of the salt mining system and the unique landscape of the diapir.
